How Are You Satisfying Your Belly?

A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:20-21)

I’ve written about the power of words before, but it’s so foundational to our success in this life, that I can never talk about it too much.

So many of us truly love the Lord. I mean we…love…the…Lord! We are committed to Him. We’ll let it be known to anyone who asks, who we serve. And yet we don’t understand why we are not living a victorious life.

There could be many reasons, we could be living in disobedience, slacking on tithing, not spending daily quiet time with God. Like I said, many reasons. This blog is about one thing that will certainly throw off your Christian walk and cause you to live a life less than what God would have you to live. And that thing is…your tongue.

Do you any of these phrases sound familiar??

  • “Your mind is the first thing to go?” Hahaha

  • “I almost died laughing?” Hahaha

  • “I’m broke”

  • “If it’s not one thing, it’s another”

  • “Things never go right for me”

  • “I never win”

  • “I’ll never lose weight”

  • “I’m not strong enough, tall enough, short enough, talented enough… I’m not enough”

  • “You crack me up”

  • “My check is spent before I even get it”

  • “I can’t get out of debt”

  • “What else can go wrong?”

  • “These kids are driving me crazy!”

When we say these phrases, we may think they are harmless. I mean, we don’t really believe we are going to die from laughing. And if we thought for a moment that it could actually happen, we’d stop laughing! Because we don’t really mean it. But words aren’t idle. Remember, God created the heavens and the earth with words. Words are powerful. And not believing this doesn’t change it.

Recently, I learned of a scripture that drives home this point.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the heavens. (Ephesians 4:29)

God tells us no corrupt communication because He knows that communication contrary to His Word, will corrupt our faith, corrupt our healing, corrupt our victory. Corrupt communication is used by the enemy to hinder us and stop us from walking in the blessings of God.

Let God arrest your tongue. Ask God to open your ears and heart to the words coming out of your mouth. Listen to yourself. You are going to have what you say. Even if it’s something you didn’t actually want.

Your belly will be satisfied with the fruit of your mouth. Death and life are in the power (or hand) of the tongue and you will eat the fruit thereof.

True Story: I used to say I didn’t want to be married. And I wasn’t. Then I started saying I did want to be married, but the only way I’d meet my husband was if he was a service guy who knocked on my door. And every time I had a tech in my home, I made sure I was “cute”, just in case. This May, I am celebrating my 2nd anniversary with my husband. He knocked on my door to install my new fireplace. He was the service tech. And now we run a fireplace business together.

So truly, truly, think about what you are saying. Your words are not idle. They are seeds that will yield a harvest.

Explore what you want in life and then search your heart. Are your words aligning with what you say you want, or are you words working against you?

Challenge yourself this week. Pick one thing that you want. Husband, better career, better health, debt-free, just one thing. And only speak towards it, NOT against it. Your life will change! I know this to be true!!

Live so that you, Make Your Dreams Your Life!

Be Blessed and Have a Fantastic Day!
