Break Out Of The Box
Are you doing what you desire to do in your life? Do you even allow yourself to dare to dream? Each and everyone one of us has at least one special gift or talent that we should be sharing with the world. A few years ago I was watching Pastor Joel Osteen on OWN and he asked the question, “What do you dream?” I gave it a lot of thought and realized that somewhere along the way of my life, I’d stopped dreaming. I was too busy living. And life was passing me by. But I changed all that. Well, actually, I was forced into a change when I was forced out of a job I’d held for years. I like to say that I was released to pursue my dreams. The only problem was, I didn’t have any. I write about my journey in my book, Today is Your Last Day…Say Wha?! (The First 24 Months After You Lose Your Job). And it really was a journey. It’s one that I would repeat in a heartbeat. And it’s one that would have never happened if God hadn’t seen fit to push me out of my comfort zone.
Though I was completely terrified at the prospect of being unemployed, I was also equally excited by the prospect of finding a new path for my life. I asked myself if I could be doing anything I wanted, what would it be? Truthfully, I didn’t have an answer immediately. But I’d begun the process because I’d at least asked myself the question and that was progress. Fast forward to today and I am so happy that there are days I sit in the quiet stillness of my home and silently cry. I’m grateful. I’m thankful. I’m joyful. Please don’t misunderstand me, though. Every day of my life is NOT a bed of roses. I have good days and bad days just like anyone else. But I’ve learned to dream. I’ve learned to break out of the box that life will gladly place me in if I allow it. I’ve learned how to live my life for myself. I’ve learned to take advice from people who are actively trying to live out their lives the way I’m trying to live out mine. Rather than listening to people who are sitting on the sidelines and letting others write their stories and their endings.
I firmly believe that we have the ability to make our dreams our lives. Have you found a way to break out of your box and begin living your best life? If so, I’d love to hear about it!
