A Really Long Blessing Over My Meals

For years, my brother and I made fun of my mother because of how long it would take her to bless her meal before she ate. We’d bow our heads and say our grace silently. Then we’d finish, lift our heads and she’d still be praying. And praying. And praying. We didn’t get it. All of us were saying the same thing, but she took her time and we raced through ours. So it became a lighthearted joke in our family.

And then a couple years ago, God had me create a new blessing for myself. And I say it once a day, usually for breakfast. And my prayer is so long, that if I’m out in public, I’m almost embarrassed by how long my head is down. LOL! But God gave me this prayer because He wanted me to affirm His Living Word daily.

Here’s my super long prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for the food I am about to receive for the strength and nourishment of my body, for Christ’s sake. And I shall serve You because You are my Lord and You shall bless my bread and water and remove all manner of sickness and disease from the midst of me. And I count it done Lord because Your Word never returns unto You void, but accomplishes what You please and prospers in the place where You sent it. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

See? I told you it was long! At the time He gave me that prayer, I needed to hold fast to what His Living Word says about healing.

If you follow my blog, then you’ll know that the foundation for your faith (at least from my perspective) starts with you Establishing Within Yourself That God Cannot Lie. I’m going to pause on that thought for just a moment. The way God’s Living Word takes root in your spirit is if you believe it. It has to be more than just a reciting of verses that you’ve heard throughout the years. His Living Word is powered by the fact that you believe that it’s true. That He means it! You can go to church your entire life and miss this revelation. Because it’s not head knowledge. It’s heart knowledge.

Back to what I was saying. I have this really long prayer that’s entirely rooted in Scripture and I’ve established within myself that it’s true.

  • And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and He shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. (Ex. 23:25)

  • So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. – (Is: 55:11)

  • The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” (Jer 1:12)

  • And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13)

I see bread and water as more than just the physical food I need for nourishment. I see it as God providing what I need to sustain me in every area of my life. And I believe Him when He says He will take away sickness. My faith is in my healing, not in the sickness. I know that because I prayed and believe, that God is blessing what I need to sustain my life and His healing power is continually flowing through me. And I can believe that God is watching over His Word to perform it in my life. And that my blessings and healing will not just be minimal, but it will be prosperous!

I think some of us (and I include myself in this group), need to do a little spiritual reprogramming. It really is okay for us to believe the promises of God. We know that God’s promises are conditional, so there are things we must do to be able to walk with confidence. And when we do our part (abide in Him, study His Word, pray, believe), He gladly does His part and honors His Living Word.

Be Blessed and Have a Fantastic Day!
