Many times when I need a boost and confirmation about what I’m supposed to be doing with my life, I watch T.D. Jakes’ DVD Series, Live On Purpose. This series has been a tremendous blessing to my life. He makes so many great points and every time I watch it I notice something different. Here’s my latest “ah ha” moment (thank you Oprah for that phrase). He said, “Don’t let your talent overshadow your purpose”. Then he shared how he is musically talented and thought he would make some form of music his career. But his purpose in life was to do what he’s doing, which is spreading the Gospel. If he’d followed music he’d have been good, but he would have missed the purpose that God had for him.
I thought about that for a moment. And I can relate. I spent years in Corporate America as an HR executive. And I was good at it. Very good actually. And I loved it. I was well-respected in my field and when my position at one company ended, I could have found another HR job. I know it. I had friends call me and tell me about opportunities. I could have maintained the status quo of my life. (And it was a great status quo). But the HR season of my life is over. And to stay in it would mean that I could continue to do something I enjoy. Something where I’m talented. But it would be at the expense of my purpose in life. I’m called to write. I’m called to motivate people. Encourage people. Do what I can to inspire people. My heart’s desire is to see people succeed in life. My dream is to help people go after their dreams! I’m passionate about it. My purpose in life is to create, to give, to love. To be just crazy enough to believe that all things are possible, and take as many as I can with me on my journey to live our very best lives. That’s my purpose. That’s my passion. And I know that over time, pursuing my passion and purpose will pay extremely well. I love what I do so much, if I could, I’d do it for free.
So, today, I got it. I listened to T.D. Jakes and I got what he was saying. I can have an enjoyable safe life walking in my talent. But my true blessing and enjoyment in life is coming from walking in my purpose! My passion!
How about you? Are you walking in either your talent or your passion? Do you know what you should be doing? If you don’t, be prayerful and open. God will show you. After all, He created you and He knows the plans He has for you!
Be Blessed and Have a Fantastic Day!
