Do you realize the power of your words? Many of us believe words are just words. But they’re more than that. Think about it. For those of us who are Christians and believe the Living Word of God, how was heaven and earth formed? By words.
Gen 1:3 “And God said, let there be light and there was light.
Gen 1:6 “And God said, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Gen 1:9 “And God said, let the water under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so.
Throughout Genesis, God tells us how He created heaven and earth. Why do you think He took 31 verses in Genesis 1 to tell us how heaven and earth came to be? I think maybe it was because He was driving home the point that when He spoke, things happened. He was demonstrating to us the power of His Word.
John 1:1 tells us “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” We cannot separate God and His Word. Because God IS His Word.
So now there should be zero doubt that words are just words. God clearly demonstrates to us that words have power. And He tells us that we are created in His image. So our words have power too!
Proverbs 18:20-21 tells us, “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Which means that when we’re laughing really hard and say, “hahaha, you’re killing me! hahaha,” we’re actually speaking death. When we say, “I’m broke”, “I’m sick”, “I’m never gonna be able to go on vacation”. You see where I’m going with this. Every time we speak against what God says, we are speaking death. Physical death, spiritual death, financial death, emotional death. Death.
But God tells us that we are satisfied with the fruit of our mouth. With the increase of our lips we are filled. What is the fruit of our mouth? Is it sweet and ripe? Or is it sour and rotten? He has blessed us with the power to choose whether we speak life into our lives. Or death into our lives. Ephesians 4:29 gives us a hint to what we should choose. “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”
We cannot choose whether we live under the authority of words. But we can choose the words we live by.
Once we fully understand this truth, and Establish Within Ourselves That God Cannot Lie, we will be far more deliberate about what we say!
Be Blessed and Have a Fantastic Day!
