Life is not a destination. Life is a journey. We’re all on our way somewhere. Even if “somewhere” is “nowhere”. Time continually ticks on. Regardless of how much you may want time to stand still and wait for you, it can’t. It must keep moving. So you are on a journey, even if it’s by default.
But are you enjoying it? Are you fulfilled in your life? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Newsflash: you will not get a different result. If you want different, then you must do different. And that will most likely cause you some discomfort. Because you’re stepping into something unfamiliar. But it’s vital to make the change if you are not enjoying the journey of your life.
When I turned 40 a few years ago, my life was shaken. I had several major life events in less than a year. I got engaged for the first time. (YAY). I lost my job, which had been my identity for 14 years (BOO). I celebrated my grandmother’s 100th birthday (YAY), and then 3 months later she died (BOO). And she died less than a week before my destination wedding (DOUBLE BOO). So I had to push it back and pray that we wouldn’t lose money. In the end, I still got married (YAY) but only 3 people were able to attend because of the date change (BOO). I was lost and my foundation was shaken. I was experiencing some wonderfully euphoric moments while simultaneously experiencing some of the greatest heartache I’ve ever known.
I had to make a conscious choice to enjoy the journey of my life. Cry when I needed to, but not wallow. I was 100% determined to enjoy my journey, even if everything I was experiencing wasn’t enjoyable. Fast forward to today. I’m happily married (YAY). I’m the co-owner of American Gas Works, a family-owned fireplace and barbecue sales, service, and installation company (YAY). I’m the owner of ML Foster Empowerment Group, where we focus on helping people make their dreams their lives (YAY). I do speaking engagements (YAY), I’ve written and published 3 books in less than a year (YAY), and I’m a newly minted blogger (YAY). I’m co-founder of Women Who Run Their World, where our vision is to Encourage, Inspire, and Support Our Sisters in Our Pursuit to Live Our Lives on Our Terms (YAY). I’m still a daughter, an aunt, a niece, a friend, and above all else a Christian woman (YAY, YAY, YAY, YAY, and DOUBLE YAY). And I’m truly enjoying my journey. With all it’s crazy ups and downs, twists and turns.
How about you? All of us have a story behind the smile or scowl on our faces and time is not gong to stand stand for any of us. It will continually march on. So, you have to make a choice. Please enjoy your life’s journey!!!
